For Serious Wounds – Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

The Advanced Wound Center at Hillcrest Hospital South is the only facility in South Tulsa to offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for the most serious wounds. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment where a patient breathes 100 percent oxygen while in a pressurized chamber. Large doses of oxygen are dissolved into blood or body tissues at these pressures. This increase oxygen promotes wound healing by:

  • Stimulating small blood vessel growth
  • Promoting new skin growth
  • Helping to fight infection

Several conditions benefit from HBOT including:

  • Diabetics with a wound that is slow to heal, or is not healing
  • A person with damaged tissue from radiation therapy
  • Someone with a skin graft that has questionable blood supply
  • Certain infections of the bone and/or skin
  • Traumatic injuries – crush injuries and/or a post-surgical wound that is failing to heal
